Heavy chipping fluid is used for the simple but highly effective technique of chipping an upper layer of paint, to reveal an underlayer of bare metal, primer or rust, etc.
This produces far more realistic chipping effects than applying paint chips with a sponge, as it replicates the real-life process instead.
Hairspray has been used for this for decades, but due to the variability of the thousands of types of hairsprays, with additives that could affect painted finishes such as oils, solvents, and surfactants, it may not work as expected or even ruin a model.
Our chipping fluid is predictable and controllable, allowing you to produce finer chipping effects by using a single fine coat, or far heavier chipping and complete sloughing of paint layers using multiple coats. This also means it is suitable for producing realistic effects in most scales, whether that is a tiny 1/144 fighter, a 1/35 tank, or a huge 1/6 scale vehicle.
The product allows the eventual bonding of paint layers, such that visually stunning effects like multiple layer chipping can be achieved. Ideal for subjects like post-apocalyptic vehicles that have been painted many times but the paint has worn down to rust in places.
